Space heating pellet stoves are in my opinion a bit of a no-no. I've had one in the show room in Canterbury for 3 years now without the slightest interest. The problems are they are tall to get a gravity hopper feed, noisy as they have 2 fans, and relatively expensive to buy and run. Pellets are many times the cost of logs and it will always be thus, as the pellets require a lot of work to make (up to 20% of the energy) so I do not see them competing with a good quality stove like a Charnwood,  Aarrow or Town & Country except in a few specialized settings, mainly commercial e.g. a show room in the country or office complex that wants to be green.

Pellet boilers on the other hand now make perfect financial sense (on top of environmental sense) as long as your pellets cost less than £225.00 per ton.

We are selling 2 top of the range Finnish boilers, which can be fuelled by logs, pellets, oil or bio-oil. To change from one fuel to another can be done by a reasonable competent person in less than 5 minutes.

These boiler use a radically different system from the standard UK type of boiler. In effect the boiler also has the hot water cylinder in it, and hot water is generated instantly by a large coil. This make it a cross between a 'combi' boiler and a traditional hot water storage system and it gives the best of both worlds.

Advantages;-

Hot water at mains pressure, no need to have shower pumps. High flow rate as energy is stored like a hot water cylinder, so hot water flow rate up to 35 litre/min. ( Typical UK combi 17 litre/min). No need for cold water tanks in loft or hot water cylinder in 'airing cupboard'. Less pipe work, less expense, less to go wrong, less to freeze up.

Disadvantages;-

The boiler in much larger than a conventional British boiler and will not fit in a kitchen. Best if a Utility room, cellar or boiler house/lean-to. Requires a proper chimney in stainless steel or brick if you want to burn logs. You can use a power fan if burning pellets, or in a balanced form if burning oil or gas.

I am importing 2 models to the UK, to simplify and keep costs down

Log Master;- Primarily designed as a log burner, with a larger combustion chamber so it takes a large charge of 18" logs. Simple natural down draft combustion, is very efficient without moving parts, electrics and things to go wrong. You can at any time purchase a pellet burner and silo & fit it or an oil burner and tank. You could run the boiler on logs in spring & autumn and change to oil or pellets over winter when more power was required?

Pellet Master:- Primarily designed as a pellet burner and comes complete with silo and auger feed. Connect to your system and chimney and you have an ECO burning zero carbon foot print full automatic system that needs just filling and cleaning between once a fortnight and once a month depending on the season. You can though buy a log kit and burn much cheaper logs, but it only take 12" logs, and so would take more frequent loading than the log master. Can easily be converted to oil or gas with the purchase of the relevant burner.

VAT:- We have a government who pays lip service to the environment and domestic heating. Talk in millions of pounds in subsidies to British Gas and other such companies and theirs no problem handing out our tax money. But suggest that insulation or bio fuels for the public should be zero VAT and you get the big cold shoulder!

After a lot of persuasion, and work by amongst others ESSE and other wood burning manufacturers a concession was made announced in the 2006 budget speech that wood fired boiler would be at 5% VAT.

Then months later came the small print. Only wood fired boiler over 7Kw, when installed by a competent person. See a good site http://www.soliftec.com/5vat.htm gives a full explanation.

Simply put if I just sell the boiler to you or your installer, I have to charge 17.5%, but if I or your installer (if they are VAT registered) supply and install it we only charge you 5% VAT on the boiler and installation, but not any hot water cylinder or chimney parts.

This is a complicated but important subject so please look at all the information & links given above. If you then have further questions please email info@cosi.co.uk to place an order fax COSI on 01227 787588 with an order and order number. If you are then still interested or you are a plumber/installer interested in purchasing the boilers please visit our show room at Molash in Kent, CT4 8HN, www.artisanoak.co.uk site to view a complete set up, see the pellets and discuss you requirements.
