Our HETAS registered team have just finished a fireplace renovation and wood stove installation for a customer with a small, dated fireplace that was only suitable for open fires. We demolished the old brick surround and opened the fireplace up. They then fitted a dark sandstone hearth, rendered the inside and plastered the front. This was the original fireplace in the early morning light, ready to be demolished. Fireplace work in progress… Finished fireplace waiting to be decorated, with a Contura 51L and sandstone hearth. This created plenty of room to fit a Contura 51L, 5kW wood stove with a generous sized fire box and an efficiency rating of 81%. The hearth is black sandstone which will dry and fade to a dark charcoal grey rather than the black you can see in the picture. Our customers also chose to finish the fireplace off with a silvered oak fascia beam. The render inside the fireplace can either be left as it is or painted with a water based paint. Some people choose to paint it the same colour as the rest of the room, and others use a different shade to add depth. We would always render inside a fireplace, rather than plaster, as plaster can crack with the heat. Visit the Recent Work section of our gallery to see more installations.      ...
